Keil’s Fresh Food Store is a family-owned grocery store in the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego, serving San Carlos and Del Cerro since 1990. Owned by Rick Keil, the third generation of a grocery family, and run day to day by General Manager Brian Haire, Keil’s is open every day from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Three Generations of Keil’s
Keil’s is a third-generation grocery business that began in Vancouver, Washington. In the early 1900s, Farrel Keil opened a small 500-square-foot store and lived upstairs. His son, Ron Keil, grew the business to more than 13 stores across Washington and Oregon, some over 50,000 square feet, with more than 500 employees.
In July 1990, Ron’s son Rick Keil brought Keil’s to San Diego, growing to three stores and taking countless brands and products to market. More than 36 years later, Rick runs one store in the neighborhood of San Carlos. It’s been a great run, and Keil’s isn’t done yet.
