OUR STORY
Proudly Serving Ajo, Arizona Since 1992
Olsens Marketplace was founded in 1992 by Don Olsen, and joined the IGA family of stores in 2004. The grocery business has been part of the Olsens family for several generations. Don’s father owned several stores in the Pacific Northwest and Don became involved from an early age in learning every aspect of the business. In the 1970s Don relocated to Arizona, opening several Olsens Marketplace IGA stores in the Yuma, Arizona area. In 1992, Don opened the current Olsens Marketplace in Ajo. The store is an anchor for the community – not only serving the residents of Ajo – but also provided key services and supplies to travelers moving between the Mexico border, through Organ Pipe Cactus State Park and up through Gila Bend, Arizona.
Today the store continues under the leadership of Bryanne Olsen and Maribel Reyes, carrying on the family’s commitment to quality, value, and hometown service in Ajo, Arizona. With a full-service grocery store, ACE Hardware and the Olsens Patio Cafe – Olsens Marketplace serves a variety of needs for the community.
Along the way, Olsens has earned the Independent Grocers Alliance 5-Star Award and was named Rural Grocer of the Year in 2024.
